This blogging lark ain't as easy as it looks. How do you describe the sound of a band without resorting to tired and worn cliches? How do you find the words without referencing the usual motley collection of bands old and new that sound vaguely familiar to the music the new objects of your affection are producing. For some reason this is much more difficult when it comes to vaguely left-field, alternative female dominated bands like Kill Rock Stars new flames Grass Widow. The all female trio will have to get used to the words Riot and Grrrl even though they share little with that revolutionary movement other than their gender and a penchant for punk. Glib references to Bratmobile and Bikini Kill will be liberally sprinkled in reviews despite the fact that they really don't sound like either group. They do however sound like The Breeders having a post punk party around the Au Pairs pad and yes I do know that they are both female fronted bands thus perpetuating the very problem I so eloquently raised earlier in the paragraph. I did tell you that this blogging lark ain't as easy as it sounds.
In an attempt to finish with a flourish I am contractually bound to say that Grass Widow are smoking.
