Goats In The Machine

The HeligoatsThe Heligoats.
Genre: Psychedelic / 2-step / Indie
From: Washington, United States

What is it with goats? Is there a higher being who decides that bands who saddle themselves with a goat like name are destined to always remind you of The Mountain Goats? Ok admittedly this is based on the fact that there is the odd similarity between The Heligoats and the Mountain Goats and therefore my research probably wouldn't stand up to a scientific peer review! Especially as further research pulls up a Phili hip hop quartet performing under the name the Goats.

All of which is a rather bizzare and convoluted way to bring The Heligoats to your attention, a band who quietly entered their 10th year of existence in 2009. Chris Otepka (formerly of Troubled Hubble) always used the moniker as a separate songwriting outlet, even while touring and recording with his other full-time bands.
Since the first Heligoats release in 1999 the prolific Otepka has released at least one record per year despite this effectively being an extra curricular activity.

Supplemented by Mike Mergenthaler, David James and Steven Mitchell, the Heligoats are releasing a new album of songs written and performed solo by Chris over the past two years. The new album Goodness Gracious will be released in February and would be a good way to spend the Christmas money from your aunt.

This very good song by The Heligoats is no longer downloadable here, just wanted to point that out. Then again it's a rather old post by now...
