Why Write?Genre: Indie
From: Denmark
Why Write? is Danish songwriter Jacob Faurholt's new project. His new record as Why Write?, the informatively titled '5 song EP' and released via Canadian based label What A Mess! Records has garnered some good reviews. Although I have to take Jacob's word for that as they're all in Danish! This may well be the first review in English so I better make it a good 'un.
Why Write? is a rockist departure from the intimate vocals and folky acoustics of Jacob's solo work. Opening track 'Beggars & Thieves' pulses like a heart monitor on a go slow. 'Burning Holes' sounds like REM doing DIY in a bell factory and 'Jesus On A Stamp' sounds like a Viking Flaming Lips. Given Why Writes occasional similarity to The Flaming Lips it comes as a surprise that the ep's closing track 'Do You Realise' isn't a cover of the Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots track but rather a self penned duet which impressively isn't flattered by the comparison.
With song writing of this quality the question shouldn't be Why Write? but why not write more!
