I've always been worried by bands who issue their own manifesto. They're usually po-faced, self important arseholes who think that living in a squat makes them superior to the rest of us drones. I've no such concerns with The Wildhouse because any manifesto that has a list of Turn Ons including Dali, Orange Juice, Montgomery Clift, The Buzzcocks, The Bunnymen and Love and a list of Turn Offs that's basically everything else is ok in my book.

Hailing from Dundee, The Wildhouse consist of Paul who sings and plays guitar, Peter who screams and plays guitar and Sheila who sings and plays drums. Whilst standing up. Like Mo Tucker from the Wildhouse. Or Bobby Gillespie when in his former guise as drummer for the Mary Chain circa Psychocandy. They don't have a bass player (nor do the White stripes or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, for that matter). The Wildhouse don't need one.

They sound like they've mainlined the musical history of Scotland, the back catalogue of The Velvet Underground and a plate of Sarah Records compilations. There are three tracks on their myspace site and they all resonate with the ghosts of different Scottish bands. Ficca sounds like pure post Postcard sounding like Josef K does shoegaze, St Judas sounds like The Jesus & Mary Chain without the Beach Boys fixation while Fearless sounds like The Cocteau Twins plugging in their instruments after a rough night on the town.

On their latest five track digital EP 'Precise Running Order - The Wildhouse Sampler' (on 17 Seconds) they sound like a highlands Velvet Underground covering an Echo & The Bunnyman b-side (Preflyte) and The Field Mice in their Sarah Records prime (Doug and Billy).

They've already released two albums, Hyenas and Poet:Saint both of which will be re-issued by 17 Seconds in 2010 along with their new album Jackson '56.
