Tubular Bells

MorningbellMorningbell
Genre: Psychedelic / Rock / Rock
Gainesville, Florida, United States

Florida-based quartet Morningbell (the answer to the obvious question is yes) is set to release its fourth album on their own non-profit label, Orange Records. The new LP, Sincerely, Severely, is due out on December 1st, and is somewhat of a departure from their Lips-inspired psychedelic rock and a significant step forward in the band's sound.

On 'Sincerely, Severely' bass and drums fill in while the guitar takes a bit of a holiday. Rhythm is the rajah with hints of everyone from Curtis Mayfield to Tom Waits to African drumming and Brazilian folk music. If you think that this sounds like a band desperately jumping the Vampire Weekend bandwagon long after it's headed out of town then you should stop being so cynical. For Morningbell it looks like a no brainer in their musical progression and they've delivered an album that'll probably still be spinning in your head long after Vampire Weekend have been buried with a stake through their Paul Simon loving hearts.
