Athens, Georgia must have a hidden stash of LSD left over from the 60s which local bands help themselves to at regular intervals. How else to explain it's seemingly endless conveyor belt of psychedelic bands? Laminated Cat, previously known as the all together less interestingly monickered Interobang and named after the Loose Fur track of the same name, are another neo psych band following in the illustrious footsteps of Of Montreal, Elf Power, Circulatory System and Olivia Tremor Control.

The quartet, whose sound has been perfectly described as lying somewhere between 'Yellow Submarine' and 'Jacob’s Ladder' have just released a new album, Umbrella Weather. The album is the second release,on Garden Gate Records, the psychedelic label operated by brother-sister team Craig Morris and Marci Schneider, wife of Elephant 6 Records founder and Apples In Stereo member Robert Schneider. The album, a delicate, druggy pop feast, literally pours itself from the speakers with layer on layer of epic, psychedelic bliss. Fuzz pedals filter exotic riffs and a ghostly voice conjures dreams in pop song format. If the Lucy from In The Sky With Diamonds formed a band it'd sound like Laminated Cat.
