Animal KingdomGenre: Epic Rock
From: South London, United Kingdom
UK epic rockers Animal Kingdom have taken time out from celebrating their first single, 'Tin Man', being named Blender.Com's track of the month to chew the virtual fat with the Devil.
The Devil: Why Animal Kingdom? What other names did you ponder before deciding on Animal Kingdom?
Animal Kingdom: It was the only one that felt right – we had pages & pages of really dodgy names – so bad you could publish them as one of those funny books you give people for christmas to read in the toilet (or is that just an English tradition?) some of the most alarming (ly bad) were geoffs, although he won’t admit writing them on there to this very day.. so bad he won’t want me to share them.. so bad that I really really want to. So bad he’s actually still denying them now while I type this
The Devil: Who are your biggest influences?

Animal Kingdom: At the moment we’re listening to a lot of, in no particular order.. Neil Young, The Cure, Radiohead, The Beatles, The Doors, Loney Dear, Bright Eyes, Band of Horses, Sufjan Stevens, The Whitest Boy Alive and lots of others..
The Devil: What was the first record you owned and what was the first record you ever bought?
Animal Kingdom: Geoff : First owned was Michael Jacksons Bad, and the first I ever bought was The Cure ‘Disintegration’
The Devil: What makes Animal Kingdom stand out from the millions of other bands in the world? What makes you unique?
Animal Kingdom: Our U.S.P! well.. we don’t really fit into any scene, or style that easily – if you listen to the album you’ll see what we mean – we’re getting compared to so many different bands - - I think that’s more because people are hearing an influence in one song, rather than across the whole album.
The Devil: What's the strangest place you've ever played and would you go back there?
Animal Kingdom: In a rubbish skip round the back the Fly Magazines offices in London! It had better acoustics than some of the clubs we’ve played so yeah we would!
The Devil: Other than Animal Kingdom who are the most exciting bands on the music scene at the moment?
Animal Kingdom: We’re liking the xx’s curey / tricky vibe, we toured with the silversuns over the summer – they were pretty awesome – Geoff's listening to the mumford & sons stuffThe Devil: If you weren't in Animal Kingdom how would you keep yourself occupied?
Animal Kingdom: Something else creative probably, we’d still be writing songs I’m sure
The Devil: What are you doing to beat the recession? Any tips on saving money for the Devil's readers?
Animal Kingdom: We shut our eyes tight, rock back & forth & whistle, and pretend its not happening
The Devil: If you were interviewing yourself what would be your killer question and how would you answer it?
Animal Kingdom: The killer question eh.. then it would have to be who is your most favorite killer ever?
Rich: Harry Connick Jr in ‘Copycat’
Hamish: Brandon Flowers
Wayne: me. Im quick, clean & quiet
Geoff: Dennis Nilson’s good
The Devil: Anything else you'd like to say the the Devil's readers?
Animal Kingdom: We’ll see you soon!
