Feeling Lucky Punk?

The LucksmithsThe Lucksmiths
Genre: Indie / Pop
From: Melbourne, Australia

The Lucksmiths are an indie pop trio from Melbourne, Australia (there must be something going on down under as this is the third band this week from Melbourne), who've been together since 1993.

In the 15 years they've been together they've been called everything from indie pop (one sentence ago!), anti-folk and retro-pop. As they're collecting descriptions I'm going to add another to their burgeoning collection, retro-indie. With hints of a misspent youth wallowing in the sounds of Aztec Camera , Orange Juice, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, The Trash Can Sinatras and The Bluebells, The Lucksmiths could be the Antipodean cousins of the Sound of Young Scotland (The Sound of Somewhat Older Australia perhaps?). They could also be the far flung outpost of the Sarah Records empire with their cute and winsome odes of love, girls and scrabble!  evoking the smell of freshly mown grass, iced lemonade and warm summer breezes.

Check out the Lucksmiths' back catalogue and feel your heart burst.

Funny, but I love the Trashcan Sinatras...yet the Lucksmiths do absolutely nothing for me. And I've really, really tried to like them, too. Damndest thing.
