Throw All The Songs We Know Into The Sea...
American Laundromat Records (ALR) has produced a 16-track CD titled 'Just Like Heaven - A Tribute to The Cure', featuring one of the all time indie greats (and a Devil favourite) Tanya Donelly (Throwing Muses, Breeders and Belly) & Dylan In The Movies covering 'The Lovecats.'
The two originally teamed up on DitM's debut ep 'Feel The Pull' and have come together again to record the Cure classic. The combination of Donelly's sultry voice and DitM's Brian Sullivan's low growl make this one of those rare thing a cover version that actually adds to rather than just mimics the original , unlike the Jamie Cullam and Katie Melua (see video at the end of the post) version which kills the track sound dead!
Other highlights of the album are The Poems trancey, soulful cover of '10:15 on a Saturday Night', The Submarines honey dripping, heartbreaking, straight as a die version of 'Boys Don't Cry' and Luff's slow-fi 'Jumping Someone Else's Train'.
The album is scheduled for official release on 27th January 2009 (the Devil's sons birthday) but Devil readers can pre-order at a special price (I'm assured that special means lower) and delivered before Christmas!
