The Return Of The Prodigal Father...

After a lengthy hiatus the tripmaster general Tricky is back with his first solo album in five year, 'Knowle West Boy', his first for the exciting British label, Domino. The album, a semi autobiographical trip (hop!) through his childhood stomping ground of Knowle West, is a welcome return to form after the bitterly disappointing 'Vulnerable'.
Without messing too much with the patented Tricky formula, the classic brooding Bristol trip-hop sound that first put Tricky on the map on tracks is still present on tracks such as 'Past Mistake', 'Knowle West Boy' is more expansive. The album mixes the hard-hitting reportage from the urban frontline of The Specials and Public Enemy ( 'Council Estate') with the cynical bar-room blues stomp of 'Puppy Toy' the bristling reggae of 'Baligaga' and reinvents Kylie's electro swathed disco 'Slow' as a decidedly untrippy Guitar Heroesque rock-out.
The maverick founding father of trip-hop is back.
