Not Pale Just...
The Fountains
Genre: Ska / Pop / Indie
From: Liverpool, Northwest United Kingdom
Today's post features a band from the Devil's hometown of Liverpool who are surely destined for great things. In the wrong hands the Scouse quartet's potpourri of funked up ska and psyched up indie could be overwhelming and confusing. In the hands of The Fountains (not to be confused with their similarly named Mancunian brothers The Fountain) their unorthodox mix of the abstract punk funk of The Slits, the offbeat Two-Tone ska punk of The Selector or fellow Scousers The Dead 60s and the psych-pop of Love seems like the most natural combination in the world.
It may not be as fashionable as dream pop (or nu gaze as some of us veterans of the 90s call it), it may not be as futuristic as nu rave and it may not be as grittily urban as grime but it's most definitely original, truly enchanting and about to breakthrough.
