Taking The Pith With...

PomegranatesPomegranates
Genre: Pop / Surf / Shoegaze
From: Cincinnati, Ohio United States

Pomegranates (that's the band not the fruit) are a Cincinnati-based quartet who serve up a huge helping of off-kilter art pop that's as infectious as dose of bird flu in a Kuala Lumper KFC .

The rumours that the band were to release their records on
Strange Fruit (rumours I've just invented, call it journalistic licence!) were dashed when they signed up to Lujo Records.

In other news plans for the band to release a cover version of the Billie Holiday classic 'Strange Fruit' (plans that I've just invented, more journalistic licence) have been scrapped. The band have instead decided to release an album of quirky alt pop gems , 'Everything Is Alive', that has had scores of my fellow bloggers comparing them favourably to early Modest Mouse but reminds me more of the Canadian scenesters Wolf Parade, Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene with a little Superchunk thrown in for good measure.

Pomegranates are well on their way to emulating the feats of their Canadian cousins in arms with an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the bloggers on the world and the coveted "Artist of the Day" slot on
Spin.com (check out the Spin article here).
