In a era when music is little more than a career option it's heartening to know that there are still bands out there likeSeattle's post punk power trio Biography of Ferns (guys guys what were you thinking of with that name? It sounds like a David Attenborough series) who believe that music is a form of communication that can transcend political/social boundaries. They wear their political heart on their sleeves playing shows in support of arts groups. women's issues, animal rights and literacy.

A punkish trio from Seattle with an agenda and a fond regard for obscure British indie bands. I know what you're thinking... we've been here before and it'll only end in a pharmacy of drugs, a puff of gunsmoke, and a world of tears (and possibly a fairly run of the mill rock band formed by the drummer that goes on to rule the world of rock!). But, while there is a hint of N****** about Biography of Ferns, don't go hanging the new Nirvana albatross around their pale and scrawny necks. BoF are more, much more, than mere N****** copyists mixing the ramshackle lo-fi punk of The Television Personalities with the classic British punk of The Clash and the arty punk of Wire that takes me back to those days when punk was more than a musical refuge for sweaty fat guys with tattoos screaming till their tonsils pop.
