Triclops
Genre: Visual / Grunge / Zouk
From: San Francisco
Since being formed by Fleshies singer John Mink (aka Johnny Geek, Johnny No Moniker, and, his latest in a long line of rather silly stage names, Johnny Known Variously) and ex Bottle and Skulls guitarist Christian Eric Beaulieu a little over a year ago Oakland-based acid punks Triclops have caused quite a stir. They were pursued personally by Jello Biafra to sign to Alternative Tentacles and release their debut album 'Out Of Africa' and have earned a reputation as an explosive live acts while opening for The Melvins, Acid Mothers Temple Acid Mothers Temple, The Locust, and Comets on Fire.
Taking a listen to the band's myspace tracks it's easy to understand what got Jello Biafra so excited. There are moments of the intimidatingly ferocious atonal punk that you'd expect from an Alternative Tentacles band but Triclop's are not afraid to turn the hardcore dial down a notch or two touching on the deranged punkedelia of the Butthole Surfers. Unpredictable, aggressive, and occasionally frightening, the distorted vocals, pulsating bass lines, and fidgety guitars are reminiscent of a psychedelic Janes Addiction at their most experimental.
A perfect album for these paranoid times.

There's even a comic to accompany the Freedom Tickler track. It's not exactly the Beano but is worth a look.
