While lot of bands wear their influences on their sleeves Hospital Bombers take a step or two beyond mere influence getting perilously close to fixation. The band don't just take their name from the The Mountain Goats track 'The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton' they also took the title of their first EP 'Satan's Fingers' from the same track. To rub it in a little further 'The Devil's Music' is like a photocopy of TBEDNBID and 'Neighbourhood' sounds like a discarded Mountain Goats song covered by the The Dandy Warhols.

With their new album 'Footnotes' (a disappointingly mundane title compared to the rumoured titles 'We Will Have World Peace', or the quite brilliant 'You Will Never Hear Surf Music Again', or 'Will You Look At All That Water?') about to explode (sorry but it just seemed too good an opportunity to miss) in May this year The Mountain Goats fixation could be an unfortunate distraction. While it will no doubt be a convenient crutch on which to rest a review (yes I know that sounds hypocritical given that I'm almost 180 words in and there's been more mentions for the Mountain Goats than a mountaineers journal, but it's just so difficult to resist) and result in a virtual Everest of blogging inches (enough with the mountain analogies please!), it's also likely to distract reviewers.

If you can cut through the Mountain Goats references you'll find that, unlike many of todays bands, Hospital Bombers don't take themselves too seriously. They claim to be a "stadium folk" band and their lyrics have a huge streak of self deprecating humour. Dig even deeper and you'll soon pick up that the Hospital Bombers are much more than a mere Mountain Goats tribute band. Take a peak in their arsenal and you''ll find some Cold War Kids, a touch of The Ponys and even a few pieces of Moldy Peaches .
