Seraphim Winter
Genre: Ambient / Hazydelica
From: 1967
Ambient dreamweavers Seraphim Winter are self confessed 'virgins of the forest of the music empire'. They are sans recording contract, without radio airtime and are so off the radar Hubble couldn't locate them. Achingly ambient and spiritual, it sounds completely out of time, like the band have just emerged bleary eyed from a time capsule buried by Edie Sedgewick in 1967. This is the sound of sandals, cheesecloth shirts, patchouli oil and peasant blouses. If you're looking for reference points then they're reminiscent of Clannad and All About Eve with a touch of the Enya, a lump of Dead Can Dance and even a slight hint of Steeleye Span. Throw in some Fairport Convention and even a dash of Evanescence and you have the full compliment of the elements to the Seraphim Winter sound. If you're looking for a neat phrase to sum the sound up then Hazydelica is the neatest I can think of.
Seraphim Winter (it even sounds like an All About Eve album track) aren't the Devil's usual cup of char but I'm a sucker for the obscure and I'm not sure they come much more obscure than this bunch of peace loving eco friendly hipsters.
