The Art Of Diplomacy With...

The IndelicatesThe Indelicates
Genre: Indie / Folk Rock / Punk
From: Brighton, United Kingdom

Last.Fm is one of the 7th wonders of the Internet. Since signing up (a little late to the party I know but then I saw it's face and now I'm a believer) I've been introduced to some great stuff that had passed me by. The Indelicates are one of the great bands that Last.FM brought to my attention and made me depserate to find out more.

Formed by one of the founder members of The Pipettes (Julia Indelicate nee Clarke-Lowes) and renowned Brighton based performance poet Simon Indelicate (not the name his parent's gave him), the Indelicates have a penchant for intelligent, literate, playful, witty songs that kick like a ninja mule. Think Carter USM with a knowing wink from Art Brut a dusting of pop from The Lightning Seeds and the acidic wit of The Auteurs. Not content with releasing a tribe of intelligently sarcastic alt pop into the wild they're also not afraid to court controversy and upset the self appointed indie cognoscenti. Check out 'Waiting For Pete Doherty To Die' a slice of cockney faux balladry which upset those devotees of the tabloid's favourite indie car wreck not bright enough to read beyond the title.

The band have a single 'America' due out at the end of March followed by their debut long player 'American Demo' in April. Well worth checking out.

The Indelicates are 'alternative' music as it should be, raw, passionate, intelligent and heartfelt, A beautiful antidote to the too slick, too shiny, too designed, careerist 'alternative' scene of 2008.

The Indelicates are just brilliant. The opening line to New Art For the People is amazing, as is the following couplet later:

"I give you head and cook your tea/ You make my Daddy weep for me."

The cover art for the stupendous We Hate the Kids is one of the most genuinely jarring images I've seen in ages. I can't wait for the album.
