More Best Ofs...

One of the most interesting facts to emerge from the Devil's, admittedly unrepresentative, sample of the Indie scene is the almost universal presence of Grinderman in the favourite tracks of 2007. Tonights two bands are no exceptions to this almost general rule both featuring different tracks from Grinderman in their top 5 for the year.

These New Puritans - Numbers

Lean, smart and unusual, These New Puritans (featured on the Devil's blog in July -These New Puritans & September - Bits, Bobs & Other Miscellany ) are at least two steps ahead of the nu rave scene and it's motley collection of bandwagon jumpers. They'll still be around when todays glow stick wavers are collecting shopping trollies for their local Tesco.

The Lodger - The Good Old Daysand 'The Good Old Days' is another Warburton's slice of grim up north, bedsit British indie pop performed with a sly grin and a wit that could demolish buildings.

Hopes for 2008
James, obviously unable to restrict himself to the allotted three, offered five hopes for 2008 and they are...
- The Lodger (Myspace ) - featured on the Devil's blog in August (The Lodger Is Staying ) - 'their stuff is great'
- Let's Wrestle (Myspace ) - they claim to be dickheads who don't deserve a record deal but are 'easily the most interesting indie act around'
- Theoretical Girl (Myspace ) - 'I've been playing her songs to death'
- The Violets (Myspace ) - Featured on the Devil's blog in July (These New Puritans) where they were described as inheritors of Siouxsie and the Banshee's gothic punk throne.
- Their Hearts Were Full of Spring (Myspace ) - Featured on the Devil's blog an astonishing three times ( October 06, Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring , December 06, Bits, Bobs and Other Stuff and February 07 Their Hearts Are Full Of Generosity , and still no mention of the Devil's blog on their myspace site!) 'these should be huge, they are a proper pop experience. Marcus has the voice of an angel in the body of a psychopath'.
More best of's coming up over the next week from Thrushes , iKiLLCaRs , The Sharp Tongues , Wooden Shjips , The Monolators , The Grizzly Owls and Eagle*Seagull so keep coming back for more great new music.
