Tis The Season To Be Filthy

Santa

Just a week to go until the the big day, 7 days to get through until the big man in red empties his sack and makes the world a happier place to be. Yes it'll soon be Xmas day and, you've guessed it, those fabulous people at Filthy Little Angels have a cornucopia of festively filthy cover versions and brand spanking new tracks to download for free, gratis, without cost (Radiohead pah, Filthy Little Angels were there first!).

Yes Missy and Woon have, once again, persuaded a Santas sack of unsung, unknown or unheard of bands (unheard by those who have not been following the Devil's blog this year that is) to provide a collection of awe-inspiring and perfectly peachy festive covers and the odd (and I mean odd) original.

From the frankly bonkers 'Shout for Trout This Christmas' by The Fountain and the truly scary 'Silent Night' by Fridge Noises (imagine Mark E Smith puking a Casio SA75 and some sleigh bells ) to the pairing of The Vichy Government with Jona Lewie 'Stop the Cavalry' it's a mixed bag with songs that will no doubt delight and annoy in equal measure.

The highlights of the 36 song set (with more to come FLA promise!) are The Vatican Cellars laid back soulful and surprisingly traditional 'Christmas Island', the out of body experience that is Akira 'White Christmas' which sounds likes it's broadcast direct from Bing's grave, the bleakly downbeat 'Wake Me Up When Christmas Is Over' from Listen Lisse and the brilliant Frommars raucous punk version of 'Last Christmas'.

Fans of Mud (are there any?) should steer well clear of Geese's atonal version of 'Lonely This Christmas' but should check out the Glasgow Glam Bangers drunken Glaswegian karaoke version which contains more emotion than a bucket full of jilted lovers.

In a world without John Peel thank God for Filthy Little Angels.

I'm afraid to say that it wasnt the world famous Shock And Awe that covered Last Christmas

Well spotted - The Devil is fallible! It was of course Frommars - the blog has been suitably amended and the Devil is suitably chastised!
