Shooting From The Hip With...

Let's Have An Accident (Filthy Little Angels)

The long awaited, well by this Devil anyway, debut album by The Colt.45s is finally released and it was well worth waiting for. Painfully honest lyrics that chronicle life in and around their Durham base skate over a DIY punky clatter evoking the spirit of 1977 with a world weary edge. From the bleak and sinister 'I Love Petrol Bombs' to the casio fuelled electro punk of closing track 'Heart's Still Beating' the Colt.45s survey the bitter and violent landscape of a drug fuelled ('Crack Can Kill You') boorish Britain ('Knife Attack') obsessed with celebrity ('Silver Screen Dream') and image ('Cut My Hair') with a refreshingly youthful disdain and disgust. Post Blur, post Blair, the Colt.45s conclude that modern life is more than rubbish it's actually really rather shit and the only sensible solution is to get drunk ('Dry London Gin').

All this and I've not even mentioned the true stand-out track, the bleakly beautiful, magnificantly melancholic 'Stockholm Syndrome' which dominates the album like 'Creep' dominated 'Pablo Honey'. The other tracks on the album are good, some of them even great, they all however pale into insignificance when set aside the majesty of 'Stockholm Syndrome'. Buy 'Let's Have An Accident' for 'Stockholm Syndrome' and get you get 11 other great tracks thrown in for free.

The Devil's Rating 12/10 (for 'Stockholm Syndrome') 7.5/10 (for the rest of the album)
