Los Angeles’ The Weather Underground take their name from The Weathermen, a 60's / 70's revolutionary group (or could it be the less prosaic and distinctly less cool Ann Arbor, Michigan-based weather service?). The band, founded 3 years ago by cousins Shoichi Bagley (guitar) and Harley Prechtel-Cortez (vocals, guitar) with Ryan Kirkpatrick on bass and Diego Guerrero on drums. Their music is a perfect blend of the bitter sweet ultra mild pop of The Weather Prophets and the experimental rock of The Velvet Underground that they could just have easily been called the Velvet Prophets (a name that surprisingly doesn't appear to be taken). Actually it's not really as neat as that with a sound that also encompasses late 70’s punk and out of kilter 50’s rock n roll and skiffle and a live show that's drawn comparison with The Libertines, The Make-Up and Kings of Leon.
