A Stone A
Genre: Rock / Experimental / Punk
Just about the coolest band in Indonesia, like the Velvet Underground if they'd been kept in a freezer for 30 years, only cooler. There are four tracks on their myspace site for download, including the incomparable 'Burn The Lung' with it's 'come take my breath' refrain, which sounds more like 'come bake my bread' which would be much more frightening!. Apparently read in an Indonesian accent “Ah stoon Ah”means “play the Stones dude!” or “you like the Stones dude” or “you’re stoned dude!” and who am I to argue.

The Upstairs
Genre: New Wave / Rock
Sartorially The Upstairs are a retro dream kitted out in chinos, spangly shirts, pop art prints and white sneakers. Musically they claim an interesting and eclectic set of influences including, A Flock Of Seagulls, Joy Division , Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Devo, which they craft into a unique take on the early 80s British new romantic synth pop. Well it would be unique if The Killers hadn't beaten them to it. Indeed, listening to them today it is easy to accuse them of being Killers clones, however when they first formed in 2001 Brandon Flowers was yet to download the greatest hits of Duran Duran onto his iPod and embark on his epic voyage to locate the perfect moustache . So maybe The Killers are Upstairs clones?

Umm..have you been hacked? The links to the Velvet Underground songs in your June 26 posting lead to 1) some crazy dance/techno thing and 2) a 2+ hour American radio show.
Plz to be fixing this; you write and reference such interesting songs, but I don't want to be downloading unknown crap onto my computer.
Thanks for pointing this out - I don't know if its a hack but I also got a techno/dance mess when selecting the first track. However the second track was ok when I downloaded it - it was defintiely Heroin by VU. I've therefore removed the first track but left the other - if anyone else has a problem then please alert me.
